  • Primary Seven Trip to Edinburgh 2012 Day 4

    Fri 25 May 2012
    Final Blog!
Quite an early start to today as the final touches to packing had to be completed.

After breakfast we loaded the buses and set off in the direction of Cairnryan. Along the way we stopped at one of the many distinguished Scottish National Trust Castles, Culzane Castle.
The Castle was incredible and steeped in Georgian and rich Victorian history. After our final packed lunch (HURRAH!) the Park Rangers toured the magnificant Victorian gardens with us, exploring and explaining the variety of flora and fauna that still thrives today.

Girvan provided a welcome break from the bus. Icecream, sweets, chocolate and more fizzy drinks.... but most importantly a really bright and new Play-Park to explore, in soaring temperatures.
The Ferry journey was as calm as the journey over...just brilliant.

Another very very successful Primary Seven trip! Now, hopefully all the children have stopped talking and are now fast asleep...zzzzzz!

    More Photographs to follow........................

  • Primary Seven Trip to Edinburg 2012 Day 3

    Wed 23 May 2012

    Continuing the daily blog!

Another scorcher of a day in Scotland and the slight north-easterly breeze made it do-able!

After breakfast we set off to the Butterfly Farm just 20 minutes away. Here we experienced all sorts of animals in various conditions of humidity including butterflies, moths (like you have never seen them!) giant millepedes and snakes to name but a few!

After a packed lunch and a play in the park we continued on to Dynamic Earth. Here we experienced and investigated our living planet and of course the "Gift Shop"

Another packed day and thankfully the weather and the children have been totally brilliant!

    Enjoy today's photographs....

  • Primary Seven Trip to Edinburgh 2012 Day One/Two

    Tue 22 May 2012
Day one in Edinburgh over! We had a beautiful smooth crossing followed by a wonderful scenic journey to Glasgow, lunch and the very entertaining Science Museum. We arrived in Edinburgh at 5.15, booked in and had tea. The very funny and not so scary Ghost Walk followed and now all is quiet......The hotel is just lovely and all the children have settled down for the night! Tomorrow another action packed day awaits us!! :)

Day two in Edinburgh over and still the fabulous weather and activities amuse the children. The morning began with a relaxed breakfast followed by a bus trip to Blair Drummond Adventure and Safari Park. What an experience, between performing sea lions, massive birds of prey, screaming lemurs and agressive chimpanzees, it was an eventful and truly entertaining day. After tea a short dander took us to ten pin bowling and an evening of competition and laughter! Now all is calm...... and Wednesday is a brand new day!!! :)

Look on the Gallery for today's pictures!

  • Bio-diversity with Castlereagh Council and P7S

    Thu 17 May 2012
The boys and girls in Primary 7S are involved in a bio-diversity project with Castlereagh Council. The children have already begun to remove the weeds from the school garden and have planted native wild flowers around the pond.
Ian and Stephen from Gardens and Parks are going to establish raised beds for the children to plant a small selection of vegetables and lettuce.
An organic approach will be used without the use of any chemicals at all, so cultural methods will be used to maintain plant health.
This is a very interesting project as it highlights the importance of all plants and animals that exist with us.
The children have already begun to investigate native wild flowers and have assembled power point presentations to present to their peers.
I am delighted to be a part of the scheme and so far I can sense that the children are too!
