Religious Education

In St Bernard’s, our aim is not only to educate children to the highest standards but also to develop their relationship with Christ, reflected in the ethos and relationships within the school.

Children from Primary 1 to Primary 7 follow the ‘Grow in Love’ programme.

'Grow in Love' encourages conversations between home, parish communities and schools about the model of sacramental preparation and celebration in parishes so that all places that play a vital role in the growth of each child – family, school and the parish faith community – can take their share of responsibility.

We are very fortunate to have both Fr Paul Morely as our School Chaplin and Fr Brendan Hickland as our Parish Priest who are very supportive of the work that goes on in school.

The ‘Grow in Love’ Programme allows our pupils to develop a positive sense of themselves and their Catholic faith, along with a respect for the beliefs and values of others.

Children are prepared for the Sacrament of Reconciliation in Primary 3, the Sacrament of the Eucharist in Primary 4 and the Sacrament of Confirmation in Primary 7.

Our staff are sensitive to the fact that not all of the children in our school will be preparing for the sacraments and teachers are careful to ensure that no child in our school feels excluded at any time.
