Mission Statement:

St. Bernard’s Primary School is:

  • A caring place, inspired by the Spirit of Christ, in which everyone feels a sense of belonging- a Catholic Community living and working together for the benefit of all.
  • A place where the children and staff learn to know, love and imitate the life of Christ through the expression of Gospel Values.
  • A place where the culture of tolerance is created where people of diverse identities and beliefs are recognised, welcomed, respected and cherished.
  • A school where the children, staff, parents and visitors feel happy, safe, motivated, supported and are keen to engage in all aspects of the life of the school.
  • A school constantly striving to enrich pupils’ lives morally, socially, spiritually, intellectually, physically and emotionally through the promotion of dignity, self-esteem and provide a sound foundation for their future.

Ethos and Aims:

We seek to provide an education that:

  1. is caring, sympathetic and understanding, and appreciates the uniqueness of each individual pupil, teacher and parents;
  2. appreciates childhood as a special experience of excitement and curiosity;
  3. treats education as a partnership between teachers and parents.

We seek to provide an effective education service developed to the highest professional standards to maximise the benefit each pupil receives from his experience at school.

In conjunction with our ethos, our general school aim is to enable each child:

  1. to fulfil his / her innate potential in an environment that is educationally rich and stimulating;
  2. to pursue confidently a wide range of personal interests, challenges and responsibilities with success and adaptability;
  3. to develop the Christian attitudes, concepts, skills and knowledge which will enable him / her to live in harmony with other people and the environment.

The staff, pupils, parents and governors are fully committed to the aims of the school and have a strong sense of loyalty to the school. Parents and staff work well together in partnership in the children’s education. Parents are welcome in the school and are given clear information about their children’s progress, the school’s curriculum and the day to day organisation of the school. Parents’ views are taken into account in the School Development Plan and parents are kept informed of the progress of the plan’s implementation.
