Bio-diversity with Castlereagh Council and P7S

The boys and girls in Primary 7S are involved in a bio-diversity project with Castlereagh Council. The children have already begun to remove the weeds from the school garden and have planted native wild flowers around the pond.
Ian and Stephen from Gardens and Parks are going to establish raised beds for the children to plant a small selection of vegetables and lettuce.
An organic approach will be used without the use of any chemicals at all, so cultural methods will be used to maintain plant health.
This is a very interesting project as it highlights the importance of all plants and animals that exist with us.
The children have already begun to investigate native wild flowers and have assembled power point presentations to present to their peers.
I am delighted to be a part of the scheme and so far I can sense that the children are too!
