Our Generations Project - P7M

Session 1 with the OUR Generation team focussed on building the language and awareness around emotions and building resilience through confidence and character. Using Dr Dan Siegel’s, ’Hand Model of the Brain,’ helps us to understand where emotions are coming from, what they feel and look like, and learn how to manage them in a healthy way. The Coke and Mentos experiment showed what happens inside us, when we don’t express how we are feeling.

Today we got to meet Archie, the OUR Generation mascot. He helped us to consider our own values, where they come from and think about the qualities that help us build strong relationships with others, particularly during free play.We hope to all graduate as PLAY CHAMPIONS by the end of the programme!

This week we got to make mucky, ‘Safari Mud pies!’ Messy play is so good for us. Not only does it let us explore different sensations, it allows us to problem solve, develop our fine motor skills and regulate ourselves. It gives us freedom to play whatever way we like by using our imaginations. We can start to experiment with capacity and measurement, and action and consequence. Wearing our messy play clothes means that we can be completely free while we play, it was so much fun!
